Announcements: 5-27-09

No Jaberisms this evening, probably due to the focused nature of our recording session. Most commonly heard phrase: (long pause) "Andy, did you get that?"

Yes, last night was our long-awaited recording session! By my count we recorded thirteen songs, although I may have included something we rehearsed for Sunday. "Bonse Aba" and "If My People" were both one take songs! "We Remember You" went quickly, as well, (six minutes) but I think we took a couple of stabs at it.

Thanks to everyone who stayed late, in a warm chapel, so that we could get the best recording possible. I'm sure we'll all find it's worth it when we hear the result.

This Sunday is the final day of office for our outgoing officer corps. When you see an officer, thank him/her! There's a lot of effort that goes on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

Information of note:

  1. May 31 is Chapelwood's 60th birthday and Kelly Williams' 85th birthday.
  2. June 3 our new officers take over.
  3. June 28 we sing all three services. It's Patriotic Sunday.

Anybody have a favorite of the songs we did last night? I think "This I Know" is one of my favorites. For those of you new to blog world, just click on the box labeled "comments" after this entry, and post a comment.

  1. Francine is like the best "pray-er" ever, so Allison, you have big shoes to fill ... but we all know you'll do a great job!
I've enjoyed everything from The Weeping Tree. So easy to sing, so lyrical, yet such deep meaning. All our soloists did beautifully last night on both pieces.

  2. Thanks to all our officers for making last year so easy for the rest of us- multiple thanks to those who have served more than one term. A great evening last night-the overall spirit of dedication and focus is a great tribute to Tom, Andy and the others who put in countless hours to make it so pleasant and exciting for us to just show up on time, organize our music and then sing the best we could while following great music and conducting. What a great organization.

  4. Will we have a CD? Will there be a Big Bill? May I sign up for copies to be used for gifts? Will I be able to deliver a CD before Christmas?

  5. There will be a CD. Don't know about the bill size. Surely they will be delivered before Christmas, and I'll bet a box of donuts that you will be able to buy as many copies as you want - for gifts, or otherwise.

  6. The purple, lavendar and white mystery tree is a solanum macrantham or in English a Giant Star Potato Tree. It is originally from tropical America- wherever that is. Really enjoyed the party, the food was amazingly good and Pat, Craig and Janet really made it so easy. A great way to kick off the new year.Monte
